We currently have a Long Term Contract to Hire opportunity for a Lead System Administrator (Linux) with our client located in Washington, DC
Our client a Fortune 500 media company is developing software to make the TV viewing experience more personal, intuitive, searchable and customizable. Job Description
• will be primarily responsible for supporting the large enterprise/Hosting environment that provides production customer web presence.
• Will be responsible for providing production & development support for the installed hosting systems infrastructure.
• Provide technical, functional & administrative consultation & support for projects, initiatives and inquiries.
• The Lead Systems Administrator is a member of the Production Operations and Internal Systems team that is responsible for the operation (deployment, maintenance, support, upgrades, system planning, etc) of production & internal systems.
• This position is responsible for understanding system deployment, upgrade path, capacity planning, & network topology for multiple production web applications.
• Major responsibilities include software system maintenance (working with developers), capacity monitoring and planning, network topology for existing & future web applications and support for production & internal applications.
• Also, this individual will be tasked with leading the support of existing internal lab systems that support research & development testing.
• System planning, support and maintenance for multiple software web applications running in production for millions of end-users.
• Understand our software deployment procedures and operations in order to be responsible for system planning & implementation
• Monitor production and internal software for maintenance & planning purposes
• Make recommendations for hardware based on usage (capacity planning)
• Deploy software for internal & production systems
Requirements:
• 10+ years experience with installing and maintaining production level equipment (hardware and software)
• Strong working knowledge of Linux (RedHat preferred)
• Should have experience in designing and supporting RHEL 4 and/or 5.
• Experience in VMWare & Xen virtualization is a PLUS.
• Experience/ability configuring, installing and troubleshooting hardware, OS, & third party software. (Weblogic, JBOSS, Apache and Tomcat a plus)
• Hands on in data-center environment are desirable.
• Proven leadership contributions in the project – that includes: People Management, Project Management, Program Management, allocation of tasks, monitoring the deliverables etc
• Strong, independent problem solving skills and have the ability to self-direct; Also manage & assign task to other System Admins.
• Excellent understanding of application interfaces, network design & implementation, Linux and Windows internals & subsystems.
• Experience leading & guiding work teams
